Basic Certificate
Designed for pilots operating drones 250 g to 25 kg in basic operations.

Level 1 Complex Operation (L1CO) Certificate
Level 1 Coplex Operations (L1CO) Certificate
Required for pilots conducting lower-risk BVLOS (beyond visual-line-of-sight) operations. Builds directly on your Advanced Operations certificate.
Prerequisites:
- Valid Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations
- Minimum age: 18
Course Content Includes:
- Advanced air law & operational authorizations for BVLOS
- Airspace analysis & operational risk assessment
- RPAS Operator Certificate (RPOC) framework & safety management systems
- Command-and-control (C2) link reliability & lost-link procedures
- Detect, alert & avoid systems
- Emergency & contingency planning for BVLOS missions

- Minimum 20 hours of structured ground school aligned with Transport Canada's Level 1 Complex knowledge requirements
- Practice exams & quizzes

Please note: this ground school prepares you for the Level 1 Complex online exam and flight review. The flight review must be completed in person with a Transport Canada–approved reviewer, and complex missions must be flown under a valid RPAS Operator Certificate (RPOC).
Flight Reviewer Rating
Designed for experienced aviation professionals seeking to obtain a Transport Canada Flight Reviewer Rating and develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to conduct flight reviews in accordance with applicable Transport Canada standards and regulations.
