Level 1 Coplex Operations (L1CO) Certificate

Required for pilots conducting lower-risk BVLOS (beyond visual-line-of-sight) operations. Builds directly on your Advanced Operations certificate.

Prerequisites:

  • Valid Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations
  • Minimum age: 18

Course Content Includes:

  • Advanced air law & operational authorizations for BVLOS
  • Airspace analysis & operational risk assessment
  • RPAS Operator Certificate (RPOC) framework & safety management systems
  • Command-and-control (C2) link reliability & lost-link procedures
  • Detect, alert & avoid systems
  • Emergency & contingency planning for BVLOS missions

  • Minimum 20 hours of structured ground school aligned with Transport Canada's Level 1 Complex knowledge requirements

Please note: this ground school prepares you for the Level 1 Complex online exam and flight review. The flight review must be completed in person with a Transport Canada–approved reviewer, and complex missions must be flown under a valid RPAS Operator Certificate (RPOC).
